Marcia Muterspaugh

My journey as a parent began in the typical way. It began with my mother.

The first episode of Parenting Reimagined is an interview with my own mother, Marcia Muterspaugh. In our conversation, she reflects on 35 years of motherhood and 35 years of living with Multiple Sclerosis. She bravely shares about the struggles of illness, the pain of an empty nest, and the joy of watching, really watching, children play, learn and grow.

Beautiful and insightful. Thank you Sherry and Marcia. My mother and the rest of our family is an unknown number of years into her journey with dementia alzheimers. As a mother I find myself now more than ever wishing I could have conversations like this with her. But sadly, that is not to be. So, it is good to hear other mom’s stories. Thanks again.

I’d like to think that your mom Marcia and I have had some heart to heart talks over the last several years.

One time my husband and I “kidnapped” her when we were on our way home to the adjoining state we live in. It was the first time we’d been together in my home and as 1st cousins who’d been growing closer through telephone and emails this was a very special week for me.

We went thrift store shopping, to church, swimming in the therapy pool at our gym and then met several other cousins(my siblings)at a park.

Marcia has been an incredible inspiration for me and a wonderful encourager and listener. I love you, Cousin.

PS Growing up, My mother frequently called me Grace, her sister and your grandmother….and she was a beautifully, and gracious: woman just like the two of you.

You got the best role model there is. I’m fortunate to have your mom for a friend. She is the face of bravery and grace, and I love her too. I’m grateful also for her daughter who is telling whoever will listen that there exists a beautiful role model who would only blush if you told her so.

  7. Nadia Ahlsten says:

Wonderful insights from a wonderful woman.

  8. Peggy says:

What a wonderful interview of a very kind and loving mother by a daughter cut from the same cloth. As I was listening I kept thinking how graceful you both sounded. Your family will treasure this for the rest of their lives.
